My dear Nirmal,
The prize distribution ceremony of our college came off yesterday. Here is an account.
The function was held in our college hall. It was nicely decorated with leaves and flowers. The guardians of the students and many distinguished gentlemen of the locality were invited.
The function was to start at 5. p.m. Shortly after four in the afternoon, the invited guests began to come in. Some students were still busy making bouquets with rosebuds to be presented to the invitees. The students who were to recite poems were engaged in last-minute rehearsals.
The President of the function arrived in time. He was given a cordial reception by the scouts of our college.
The function started with an opening song. Then the Principal read out the annual report of the College. There were songs and recitations. The students of the 2nd-year class staged “The Death-Trap", a one-act play by H. H. Munro. It was a grand success.
Then came the distribution of prizes. You will be glad to know that I got two prizes, one for general proficiency and the other for writing the best English essay. The President patted me in appreciation as he gave me the prizes. The encouragement I still remember.
After giving away prizes, the President delivered a nice little speech. It was full of advice and instruction for us.
The function ended with a closing song. More when we meet.
