In West Bengal, there are six seasons. They are-Grishma, Barsha, Sarat, Hemanta, Sheet, Basanta. Seasons are the greatest boons of nature. The seasons of West Bengal are a matter of pride. The beauty of nature is expressed by the change of seasons.
Winter is one of the six seasons in West Bengal. I like this season most. It comes after Hemanta. It is the fifth season in the cycle of seasons. Winter comes in Kartik and lasts till Falgun.
It is a pleasant season. The sky remains clear. The weather is dry and cold. We enjoy our days by sleeping, eating and doing all types of work. It is a season of varieties of crops, green vegetables and fruits. Varieties of flowers bloom. Fairs and festivals take place in this season. Many fruits like apples, oranges, grapes, pears, plums and vegetables like potatoes, cabbages, cauliflowers, onions, peas, tomatoes, gourds, spinaches are brought forth in this season. Festivals like Christmas, Jagadhatri Puja, Saraswati Puja etc. are held during this season. Farmers are happy because this season brings money to them. It is a comfortable season for the rich, but poor people suffer much in winter.
