India, our motherland, has produced a great number of great men. Among them, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the man whom I admire most and he is my favourite national hero. His boldness (ee), heroic action and self-sacrifice have attracted me the most. The more I read of his life and activities, the more I admire and adore him.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a great Patriot, was born on January 23, 1897, at Cuttack in Orissa. Janakinath Bose, an eminent lawyer, was his father and his mother's name was Pravabati Devi. He passed the Matriculation Examination from Ravenshaw Collegiate School in Cuttack. He was admitted into the Presidency College in Calcutta but was rusticated for protesting against the insulting comment of a British Professor on the Indians and got himself admitted into Scottish Church College from where he obtained the B.A. degree in the first class. He went to London and passed the I.C.S. in 1920. He refused to join the service under the British Government. He joined the National Movement. He was so popular that he was elected the President of the Indian National Congress first in 1938 and then in 1939 at the famous Tripura session. Throwing dust to the eye of the British Government he escaped in disguise and went to Germany and Japan. At Singapore, he formed the Indian National Army (I.N.A.) and became the Commander General of the Army. He was known as Netaji to the soldiers of the Army. He marched forward towards Delhi with his army in 1945 and advanced up to Imphal at Manipur where he hoisted the tri-coloured flag of Independent India. But unfortunately, he had to halt as the Japanese had surrendered then.

Netaji left away for the time being and it is reported that he died from an air-crash but the people of India, mainly the Bengalees, do not want to believe in the report. However, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose still appears to be the symbol of Patriotism to the Indians and he will remain immortal in the history of Independent India.
